Josie Maran Watercolor Eyeshadow Review

josie maran reviewJosie Maran is a higher end brand I always saw in Sephora but never tried. Recently I got the Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow. I was drawn to this product by the uniqueness of it. I also love how the product works.

From the website:
This refreshing, pigment-packed liquid shadow makes eyes look and feel more hydrated. It has two layers: the first delivers fresh coconut water, and the second provides a layer of argan-infused pigments to give eyes a more youthful appearance and minimize the appearance of fine lines.

Pros:

*Feels lightweight on the eyes.

*Beautiful color.

rio de rose gold

*Lasts all day.

*Can be used as a base for other eyeshadows or on its own.

*Love the packaging. The glass bottle is so unique and the applicator is light to the touch when applying it.

Cons:

*The pigment and coconut water separate frequently and  I have to shake it up before every use.

Overall the product is simply lovely. I love how lightweight the product feels on my eyes and combined with the long lasting wear of the product it makes it my new go to eyeshadow. Here is how great the color looks on the skin.

How To: Depot MAC Eyeshadows

How to depotHi all,

In an effort to organize some of my makeup I decided to depot my MAC products and put them in a palette. Also, with the leftover containers I was able to turn them into Back to MAC for some free eye shadows.

Below are all of the materials you will need to do this project.

Materials NeededSTEP 1: Remove the Outer Plate

Step 1The first step in getting the eye shadow out of the plastic container is to remove the outer plate from the ‘body’ of the plastic. To do this take the sharp knife and wiggle it in the crease line of the plastic. As you do this you will apply pressure until you hear a pop sound of the plastic clicking up. Once this occurs it will look like the picture below.

step 1.5Remove the outer plate and place the rest of the plastic container to the side until the end when you put it back together.

STEP 2: Place Outer Plate on the Straightener

step 2For step 2 take the outer plate and place it on a hair straightener for 30 seconds. You do this so that the glue under the eyeshadow heats up and becomes gooey. Doing so allows for the eye shadow to be easily removed from the outer plate in step 3.

STEP 3: Remove the Eyeshadow from the Outer Case

step 3In step 3 place the outer casing of the eye shadow on a paper towel. Once doing so take the same sharp knife and shimmy it between the plastic and metal pan of the eye shadow. Slowly take the knife and push it down and up to remove the shadow from the plastic. The eye shadow might be hot from when it is on the straightener. If so, use the tweezers to extract it from the casing to not burn your fingers.

step 3.5

Below is what the eye shadow will look like removed from the case.

noteOnce the shadow has cooled you can place the shadow in a MAC palette or z palette.

If you are planning on doing Back to MAC you will need to take the casings and put the eye shadow container back together to be able to return it for the free products.

STEP 4: Preparing Items for Back to MAC

step 4Take the outer tray and line it up with the inner try.

step 4.5

Place the outer tray into the rest of the base and click it into place. Now it is ready to return to Back to MAC.

Below are all of the things I was able to return for Back to MAC. Note: to get a free eye shadow, lip glass, or lipstick through Back to MAC you must turn in 6 used MAC items.

Summer to Fall: Makeup

Summer to Fall Makeup

With it officially being September, I am so excited to start my Summer to Fall Series. The first post in my series is going to be about the transition of bright summer makeup looks to more neutral, softer looks for fall.

Makeup

There is nothing I love more than to switch up my makeup for the changing of the season and be able to play with items that I haven’t used in a while. Here are a few tips to take your makeup staples from summer to fall like the pros.

Base

From BB Cream to Foundation

Summer to Fall BaseSummer makeup is all about simplicity and it being lightweight. With the cooler temps of fall I do not mind gong back to a thicker foundation as a base. One of my favorites right now is Benefit’s Hello Flawless foundation. It is lightweight like a BB cream but the extra coverage looks great on my skin.

Powder

From Sheer to a Flawless Finish

Summer to Fall PowderIn the summer I love to lightly ‘dust’ my fave with a translucent or iridescent setting powder. As fall rolls around I tend to add more coverage by going with a powder that is a little heavier covering up all of my imperfections and creating a natural finish to the skin.

Highlighter

From Bronzing to Highlighting

Summer to Fall HighlighterAs summer fades I tend to contour less. I like to switch up from using bronzer to highlighter. Highlighter is a great way to brighten the skin, especially high up on your cheekbones. Liquid highlighters are my absolute favorite. Applying them with your fingers or a sponge, like the Beauty Blender, allows them to seep into your skin and create a natural glow.

Blush

From Natural to Flushing

Summer to Fall BlushWhen switching up blushes from summer to fall I tend to go from lighter shades to deeper. In the summer I tend to be hotter because of the heat and always seem to have red cheeks. Thus I like light blushes and to even skip putting it on. In the fall I love having a darker blush so that my cheeks have the look of being flushed. Also, I think it is a nice contrast to have a darker blush with the upper cheekbones highlighted.

Eyeshadow

From Cream Shadow to a Matte Lid

Summer to Fall EyeshadowDuring the summer it is so easy to swipe on cream eyeshadow and jump out the door. In the fall I love creating warm, smokey eye looks with matte eye shadows. With a lighter complexion darker eyes really stand out in the fall. One of my favorite palettes to use in the fall is the Urban Decay Naked Basics. With a few colors you have the versatility of creating some great looks! It is also super travel friendly.

Lipstick

From Glossy to Creamy

Summer to Fall LipstickFall is the best time to start playing around with more lip colors! During the summer I tend to wear mostly coral and pinks. It is fun to start using more colors in the fall and even compliment the color to what you are wearing. One of my favorite things to do in the fall is a bold matte lip in red, dark purple or even darker. With the contrast of lighter skin this really looks great! Also, for on the go a creamy neutral lip looks perfect with a smokey eye and brighter cheeks.

No matter what direction you go with in your makeup know that in reality you don’t NEED it! You are beautiful no matter what is under all of those products! If you are like me, it is fun to wear makeup and change up how I look from day to day. But remember makeup does not define you and your confidence comes from within. 🙂 Name

Kendra Scott Earrings
Kendra Scott earrings are beautiful! I cannot wait to get my hands on my own pair.

Tortoise Persimmon Collar
BaubleBar has so so many cute necklaces out right now. I think that this tortoise shell one would look perfect in many fall outfits.

Too Faced Cosmetics lipstick
These lipsticks are brand new and I have been reading really good reviews on them. The pigmentation is supposed to be amazing and long lasting! I love the deep purple for fall.

Essie nail polish
Essie has so many great polishes in their fall collection. I love this shade of green. I think it is neutral, yet perfect to pair with outfits I like wearing in the fall.

Plaid western shirtdress
I can’t wait to bring out all of my plaid! This plaid dress would be a perfect dress to transition from summer to fall with.

Kate Spade New York: Lola Avenue Rollins
I am addicted to all things Kate Spade. I saw this recently on the sale part of the website and I have not been able to get it out of my mind. The deep brown leather looks perfect for fall!

DIY: Tinted Moisturizer

With summer weather finally here I have no desire to slather on a bunch of foundation. In an effort to try and still look presentable at work without a lot of makeup I came up with a tinted moisturizer.

DIY Tinted Moisturizer

This DIY is so simple yet very effective.

Choosing a Moisturizer

Moisturizers

Step 1:

Take your desired moisturizer and squirt out the same amount you would use on a regular basis.

Glass Holder-You can either squirt this on your hand, a plate, or whatever you use when mixing foundations.

-For me I use a glass candle holder that I got at Dollar Tree. I love how this is easy to mix the foundation and moisturizer without the mess.

Step 1

Step 2:

Add a small amount of your foundation to the moisturizer. I usually use half the amount I would normally use.

-Remember, this is supposed to be tinted and not full coverage.

Step 2

Step 3:

Mix the foundation and moisturizer together.

Step 3

As you can see in the picture above it is easier for me to do this on my little glass plate but you can mix it on any surface you like.

Step 4:

Apply the tinted moisturizer.

-You can do this with your hands, but make sure that you apply it evenly over the skin.

-Since I made mine on the glass plate I apply the tinted moisturizer with a brush. When doing this I tend to buff it in with my fingers after putting a layer on my skin.

Application

Also:

For traveling this is perfect to make ahead of time and put in a travel container you can buy for less than a dollar. Bringing the tinted moisturizer would take up less space in luggage and save time. It is also great to put on after going to the beach to even out your skin tone without clogging all your pores in the heat.

Influenster #SurfsUpVoxBox

VoxBox

Influenster VoxBox

I was lucky enough to be chosen by Influenster to receive their Surfs Up VoxBox!

If you have never heard of Influenster before it is really cool. It’s a website that allows people to influence others by writing reviews on products you use. These products can be anything from a bike to an eye shadow.

The more reviews you write the more influence you have. Thus, having influence gives you the opportunity to enter in to receive a VoxBox. A VoxBox is what is shown above. It is a free box of goodies that they send to you to try and then review on their site.

What is great is that anyone can join! If you want to be an influenster click here.

Surfs Up

Vox Box How To

The VoxBox I received was Surfs Up. In every box you receive a card which indicates all that is inside and how to go online and let Influenster know you received it. The card lets you know a little bit about each product as well.

They also have social media ‘parties’ where you can talk to others about the products.

Coupon: Jamba Juice Smoothie Kit

Jamba Smoothie

The fist item in my box are coupons to receive one free Jamba smoothie bag and $1 dollar off of another Jama bag. I am so excited to try this out!!

First Aid Shot Therapy

First Aid Therapy Shot

I am really intrigued by the concept of this pain reliever shot. It looks like it would work quicker than a pain reliever pill. I like the simplicity of it. I have yet to try it but have put it in my car’s medical kit.

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration After Sun

Hawaiian Tropic After Sun

I am most excited about receiving this in the box! A lot of after sun products I have tried leave my skin feeling sticky. I am always on the lookout for something better that hydrates and helps keep my tan lasting longer.

What is different about this is that it is not only a gel but a lotion. I believe that is why it is supposed to not feel sticky after using it.

I have used this twice so far, after going to the pool. I love the consistency of the product and that it absorbs quickly into my skin!

SinfulColors Professional Nail Polish

Sinful Colors Nail Polish

When I first saw that I had received a polish I was really excited! The color as well is a nice blue. I have an addiction to nail polish and this was a brand I had never tried. Sadly though, I did not like this polish.

The consistency of the polish was so thick that it did not dry well at all. Even an hour after painting my nails I would touch my nail and it would smudge and show the finger print. This was really frustrating.

Other polishes by this brand might not have the same result, but with the polish I got and its formula it did not work well.

Covergirl Bombshell Curvaceous Mascara

Bombshell Mascara

The final product in my box is a mascara. It is always fun to try a new mascara, especially as one as different as this.

The wand is double the size of any ‘normal mascara wand I have used before. This is due to the fact that there are two ends in which you can use two different types of wands to apply the product.

Bombshell #1

Bombshell #2

The wand on the left, #1, is to volumize and curl the lashes.

The wand on the right, #2, is to intensify the look.

This concept of two wand heads is so unique. For an everyday look, I tend to use two different mascaras, by layering them, so why not get the same look but have them be in one wand!?

For traveling, I think this would be a great mascara!

Lip Product Addict Tag

I was tagged about a month ago about by Glazed Over Beauty to do the Lip Product Addict Tag. Brianna, from Glazed Over Beauty has done some great blog posts on reviews, hauls, and more. I love checking out what she has posted and so should you! Check her Lip Product Addict Tag here.

Lip Product Addict Tag

I would definitely say that I am somewhat of a lip product addict. Lip products are fun to buy and I can usually convince myself of getting a few here and there because so many new ones are always coming out!

1. Favorite Balm/Treatment

Elf Lip Exfoliator
Elf ExfoliatorRight now I am loving the Elf Lip Exfoliator. What I like best about this is that it is in the shape of a lipstick. Most lip exfoliator lip scrubs you need to use your finger to apply it to your lips. For a while this

does not bother me, but in time it does get a little messy and gross.

The Elf Lip Exfoliator is infused with Vitamin E, Shea Butter, Avocado, Grape and Jojoba Oils which combine with the exfoliator helps to nourish my lips. I find that after using this my lips are so soft.

2. Best Eye Catching Red

MAC 2

I typically do not wear reds. I prefer to wear nudes, pinks, and maybe a dark pink. The last time I wore red lipstick was at a 20’s inspired Birthday party. I wore MAC Cyndi from the Viva Glam collection which was definitely eye catching! It was so much fun to wear for a night out since I do not usually wear reds on a regular basis.

Even though it is not the brightest or darkest red it is perfect for me.

3. Best Luxury and Best Drugstore

Revlon and Nars

Luxury: For luxury I chose my favorite nude gloss, Nars lip gloss in Striptease. I love how I can make it shear or opaque on my lips without it being sticky. It lasts a long time and it has a great smell. Even though these are a splurge it is fun to treat yourself to a nice lip product every once and a while.

Drugstore: Revlon are my favorite drugstore lip products. I find that they are sometimes even better than some of my MAC lipsticks. The formula is creamy, does not dry out, and the color is long lasting. What more could I ask for for around $7!?

My favorite is from the Revlon Colorburst Collection, Baby Pink.

Revlon

Nars4. Best MAC Lipstick

MAC FavoriteIMG_4814

Oh, my. I could go on and on about MAC lipsticks. My favorite is one of their lusture lipsticks. It is called Quiet Please. I love that I can wear it on its own or put it on top of another color for a pop.

As you can see on the left the color is shear but reminds me of champagne. It is just beautiful for any skin tone.

5. The Most Disappointing

Covergirl

The most disappointing lip product I own is one from Covergirl. I got it because I had heard a lot about the Queen Collection that came out a few summers ago. I chose this one because I thought the color was gorgeous and would look perfect with a tan.

Covergirl Swatch

Unfortunately, I find that when I am wearing it it dries out quickly. The gloss has a lot of shimmer, which I like, but when it dries the shimmer starts flaking off. I could just never get it to work right for me.

6. Liner – Yes or No?

Like, Glazed Over Beauty, I rarely use lip liner. I actually only have one. I usually only use it to create a pink base to a pink lip gloss I will be using on top of it. I have never used one with a lipstick before but would love to get some to play around with. If anyone reading has any recommendations for me, leave a comment below.

7. Best Gloss

Lippy

Ever since Butter London’s Lippy came out I have been hooked! The color is so opaque and looks thick and shiny on the lips without being sticky! It is one of my go to glosses. I spoke more about it here.

If you have never tried a Lippy Butter London gloss you should! 🙂

8. Something Extra

EOS Lip Balm

One lip product I could not live without is my EOS lip balms. I apply these every night before bed and 100 times during the day. They are so nourishing for my lips!
