Viva Las Vegas

Hi friends,

Last weekend Paul and I were lucky enough to go to Vegas, Nevada for a mini vacation. We packed in so much stuff in just two short days!!

Day One

The Las Vegas Strip

The first day we were there we explored the ‘Strip’. It was so cool to walk around the different hotel casinos. Each one had a unique atmosphere and vibe!

My favorite hotel that we visited was the Flamingo!! It was such a cool hotel and it even had real flamingos!!

At the very end of the strip there is the Stratosphere. It is an older hotel but the tallest in Vegas. The view at the top is like no other in the city!!

Day Two

The second day was completely different but just as fun. We started the morning off by renting a convertible Camaro! Pretty cool!! Having the top down is the best way to see the area’s beauty.

Red Rock Canyon

red rock canyon

Red Rock Canyon was magnificent! It was surreal to go from the city feel in Vegas to the beautiful mountain area in the desert. There is a great visitor center there with a lot of info about the area and maps with all the different hiking trails. Also, there was a 13-mile car loop to see the area where we saw awesome views all around us. The area was indescribable! It was so pretty and different from anything Paul and I had ever seen.

The Hoover Dam

After leaving Red Rock Canyon, we made our way to the Hoover Dam. Seeing the Dam it was such a huge engineering feat that the US accomplished! Paul and I could not believe how big it was and the power that it generates.

I would recommend if you go to start out by going on the walking bridge overlooking the dam. It is the perfect way to get pictures of the dam straight on.

Next, we went to the actual dam and took the power plant tour. This was so neat to see and learn exactly how the water from the lake is generated into power for thousands of Americans all over the area.

Lake Mead

lake mead

Lake Mead is the man-made lake that gets its water supply from the Colorado River. It is what flows into the Hoover Dam. When we passed the lake going to the Hoover Dam we wanted to stop back at it so that we could check it out. At the Visitor Center, we learned that there is a ‘beach’ area that people swim at. Paul and I immediately wanted to do this!!

The view, water, and weather were perfect. Swimming in the lake was the ultimate of relaxation! It was our favorite part!!

That night we caught red eye flight back home and started another crazy work week. It was an amazing trip and so memorable!

Have you ever been to Vegas? What did you do?

Josie Maran Watercolor Eyeshadow Review

josie maran reviewJosie Maran is a higher end brand I always saw in Sephora but never tried. Recently I got the Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow. I was drawn to this product by the uniqueness of it. I also love how the product works.

From the website:
This refreshing, pigment-packed liquid shadow makes eyes look and feel more hydrated. It has two layers: the first delivers fresh coconut water, and the second provides a layer of argan-infused pigments to give eyes a more youthful appearance and minimize the appearance of fine lines.

*Feels lightweight on the eyes.

*Beautiful color.

rio de rose gold

*Lasts all day.

*Can be used as a base for other eyeshadows or on its own.

*Love the packaging. The glass bottle is so unique and the applicator is light to the touch when applying it.

*The pigment and coconut water separate frequently and  I have to shake it up before every use.

Overall the product is simply lovely. I love how lightweight the product feels on my eyes and combined with the long lasting wear of the product it makes it my new go to eyeshadow. Here is how great the color looks on the skin.

Have you ever tried this eyeshadow or any other products from Josie Maran?

3 Step Paw Print Painting

Hi friends,

Below is an easy 3 step plan to have the perfect canvas picture of your animal’s paw prints. I find that the fewer the steps the easier it is to get your animal to quickly do the project and have it look beautiful!

Step 1: Prepare the work Station

Step 1

*Lay the trash bag down on the floor and tape it in places if necessary.

*Put a blob of paint on each plate with a foam brush ready.

-As we put the three colors on the plate we realized we wanted one more so we made the green.

*Lay the canvas out beside you.

Step 2: Paint the dog’s Paws

Step 2

Painting the dog’s paw is quite easy. Take the foam brush and get a light amount of paint on it. Then, gently wipe the paint over the dogs paw. Once the paw is covered in paint lay the paint brush down and hold onto the paw for step 3.

cujo Paint

As you can see he kept wanting to bite the paint brush…it was the only thing he did not like about the project! This is when we started giving treats to get his attention on those instead of what we were doing. Below are our favorite treats to give him. They are training treats and we like them because they are small, soft and delicious.

Step 3: Press paw on the Canvas

Step 3

What Paul and I found was that this was a two person project. He would hold Clyde and I would paint his paw quickly and then press it on the canvas where we wanted it to go. Also, with only Paul and I doing this project it was hard to hold him, press the paw and take a picture lol…so unfortunately we do not have one of the actual pressing. But as you can see above, that is how I would hold his paw and to press on the canvas.

wash paws

In between the four colors we chose to do we would wash Clyde’s paw in the sink. Depending on how many colors you do you will need to do this as well.

one color

It is also important to note that we did one color at a time. We would press the orange paw on each canvas until it was done. That way we would not have to go back.

Hope you like what I did and try it out yourself. If you do please message me so I can see your work of art!

Clyde’s Bath Time Routine

Rrrrrrruuuufff!!!! (Hi friends)

We have now had Clyde for about 5 weeks but it feels like he has always been apart of our family.

One routine we have every week is to give Clyde a bath. I read online that you can give a puppy/dog a bath as many times as often as you want as long as they do not have a sensitivity to their skin. Paul and I find that with Clyde going on 2-3 walks a day by the end of the week he is in high need of a bath! Also, since I love beauty products I thought I would show you and give a review of what we use for Clyde.

C Bath Routine

All of the products are from Burts Bees dog line. right now we use the puppy shampoo for Clyde. We also purchased the shampoo for him for when he is no longer a puppy that is all natural and calming for him as well. One great product that we recently got is the Tear Stain Remover. I like putting a few drops of these around his eye area to clean the gunk away. This will be especially useful as Spring comes with pollen and other allergens.

The most used product, the 2 in 1 Tearless Shampoo and Conditioner for puppies, is well loved by Paul and I for Clyde’s baths.

Here are a few reasons why it is our favorite!

  • The shampoo is gentle and calming which is great for Clyde as he is anxious during bath time.
  • The smell of the shampoo is wonderful. When he is done he smells so good!
  • Also, the smell of the shampoo is not too girly. This makes it versatile for girl and guy pups.
  • The shampoo is sensitive enough that it has not dried out Clyde’s skin at all.

  • The bottle is large and can make it awkward when trying to hold your pup and squeeze some of the shampoo out at the same time.

Below are the step by steps for how we give Clyde a bath.

  1. Clean your kitchen sink. This is where we like to give Clyde a bath but if you have a more efficient place feel free to use that.
  2. But about 3 inches of warm water in your kitchen sink.
  3. Add one teaspoon of the shampoo and swirl it into the water.
  4. Have a cup handy to since your dog off with.
  5. Put your dog in the warm water.C Bath
  6. Pour water all over him.
  7. Take the shampoo and lather it into your dogs fur. Make sure to watch out for his eyes and ears. Also, watch out for any known sensitive areas your dog might have.Cleaning Clyde
  8. Once lathered, take the cup and pour water over their whole body until there is no more shampoo present.Wash Clyde
  9. Once completed you can towel dry your dog.Bath Done
  10. As an added step, you can even blow dry him/her if they like to be blow dried.

How do you like to give your dog a bath? Do you have any tips for me??

Healthy Quinoa Chicken Salad

Hi friends! One of my favorite things to make year round is chicken salad. Recently while making some there was some left over quinoa in the fridge and I though, ‘why not.’ So I added some into the mixture and it made the flavor even better! I decided to share my chicken salad recipe with you all as well. Hope you think it is as delicious as I do!Chicken Salad

2 Cans of Chicken

1 Cup of Quinoa

2 Stalks of Celery

2 Carrots

1 Onion

1 Apple

1 Tablespoon of Garlic

1 Small handful of Cranberries

1/2 Cup of Low Fat Mayonnaise

1/4 Cup of Relish

1 Teaspoon of Mustard

Step 1: Put one cup of quinoa in a medium sized bowl.

IMG_6123Step 2: Finely chop the carrots, celery, onion, apple and cranberries. Once chopped add them to the bowl.

I like using the apple and cranberries for a dash of sweet flavor since the other vegetables are strong in their flavor and it compliments the quinoa.

Step 3: Open the cans of chicken with a can opener. Drain the juice from the chicken and then finely chop. below is what the ckicken should look like once chopped.

IMG_6136Step 4: Add the chopped chicken to the other ingredients in the bowl.

Step 5: Add the condiments to the other ingredients to the bowl.

Step 6: Mix all of the ingredients together.

Finished Product

Once made, let the chicken salad sit in the fridge for 30 minutes to help the mixture ‘gel’ and become even more delicious!!

What kind of chicken salad do you like to make? What else do you like to make quinoa with?

Biker Barre

Hi friends,

Today I am going to write about my newest obsession: Biker Barre!

Since I had my first class at the end of January I have been more and more obsessed with attending as many classes as I can. Which ended up being almost twice a day in February!

Biker Barre is like my own oassis where I can go to workout and zone in on the workout at hand. It is so much fun to meet new people in the area and get a workout at the same time. There are so many great people that go and all uplift each other for success in the classes.

Biker Barre is unique in that they have two types of classes available.

Before Biker Barre I had never done a cycling class and boy was I surprised when I did my firs one here. It was exhilarating!! At the beginning of class they turn all the lights out and you can only see dimly all around you. This is the best because it really allows you to focus on yourself and your workout instead of who is around you and how they are working out. Once the lights go out the instructor gives you a quick hello and maybe a little spurt of inspiration for the class and you are on your way!! There is loud music pumping all around you which pushes you to follow the temp of the beat and intensity for the workout. After 45-50 minutes of pushing yourself to the limit the workout is over and you feel like you can take on anything. Even if my muscles were tired or I was out of breath I left feeling so happy and ready to do even more!

Barre is a total body workout for all of your muscles. Before going I don’t think I barely had gluten…but now I do!! I love the airy atmosphere of the barre studio and how nice and approachable the instructors are. As a newbie I did not really know what barre was and the correct poses and the instructors were always kind in pushing me to go farther and correct my form. Each class is designed to work a full range of muscles with small pulsing movements of your body. It is an interesting concept that always leaves me sore and wanting to come back again!!

Pros and Cons of Biker Barre

  • Accessibility–The location of Biker Barre is perfect. Not only is it near a metro, Capitol Hill and shops but the interstate is right there as well. It can easily be a place that people go to after work for a great workout..even if they live in VA or MD.
  • App–One of my favorite things about Biker Barre is their user friendly app. At any time in the day I can look onto the app and see what classes are being taught, by who and even sign up there on the spot. With being on my phone, like so many others, so much this is a great feature to the business!
  • Instructors–There is a wide variety of instructors for each class that you might want to take. I love this because I was always going to a different class to learn from a different instructor and therefore did the same types of workout but with different positions and etc. It really kept me interested in coming back and seeing what new things I could learn all at one place.
  • New Equipment–Since going this last month I have already seen and used new equipment that Biker Barre has purchased for the clients. It is awesome to know that they really put money into their business for the benefit of their clients. Specifically, the new bikes are top notch!!
  • Cleanliness--I love that no matter what time I have been it has always been really tidy and clean. This was really important to me when finding a good place to work out.
  • Towel at the End–At the end of each class you get a cold scented towel that is literally divine! It feels SO good after a hard workout to wipe off a layer of sweat and go onto the next thing in your day.
  • FREE Mimosas on the Weekends–Who doesn’t love a little p[ickl me up mimosa after a hard workout!?

  • Size— The only con I have is that I wish Biker Barre was bigger!! It is the perfect workout combo and I know once more people come to this little gem in DC it will be harder to get into every class you want. But hey, that just means they need a second one!! 😉

For more info about Biker Barre click here on FAQ. If you are looking to find a new, great place to workout and live in the DC area message me. I would love to go and introduce you to something in my life that I have been loving!
